Activating your Account
Once you complete registration you will be sent an email to the address you specified during registration. Sometimes this message can take a couple of minutes to arrive in your inbox.
When you receive the message, simply click on the activation link therein and your account will be activated. You will then be taken to the arealkeeper.ie login page where you can login using the username / password details you entered when registering.
Once you have registered and activated your free arealkeeper.ie account you should complete your profile. You can access your profile from the main menu under
The profile is broken down into five sections:
After you complete each section you may proceed to the next one until all sections have been completed.
Please note it is very important to be as honest as possible when completing your profile. The focus of arealkeeper.ie is to bring genuine users together in a safe and fun environment for the purposes of creating meaningful matches and dates.
Your profile picture doesn’t have to be an oil painting. After all, you’re real, right? However, a good profile picture will have at least some, or all, of the following characteristics:
We’re conscious that it isn’t always easy to find a picture that easily meets these criteria. To help, we’ve added a photo cropping tool so you can capture your wonderful face in a perfect square. Okay, we can’t paint a smile on your face, but we hope our tools help you get your picture just right.
Note: You can add more profile pictures when you subscribe! See more under ‘Upgrading Subscription’
After you have saved your completed profile you can return at any time to edit any of the details, or change your main profile picture.
To do so, simply go to:
In order to create real, meaningful matches the system needs to know what you are looking for in a match. Under the My Preferences section you can do just that!
You can access the Preferences section from the main menu, under preferences.
The preferences section has six sections, as follows:
As you will see, the first four are quite straightforward and resemble the same sections on your profile. Simply complete these first four sections as honestly as possible and the system will learn about the attributes you want in a match.
While the system will accurately reflect your preferences in your matches, by rating matches according to how many of your preferences they meet, there is also the possibility to flat out refuse to be matched with someone who does not meet some criteria you specify under ‘deal breakers’
You can choose a maximum of three deal breakers from a predefined list of seven options. Any deal breakers you select will be factored in when generating your matches.
If another user possesses an attribute which you have listed as a deal breaker, they will not be suggested as a match for you, even if they are perfect in every other way!
The moral of the story: choose your deal breakers carefully and wisely , otherwise your true love might just get away.
This is what it’s all about, right? Now that you have given an honest profile and a true reflection of your preferences and deal breakers, the system can begin suggesting matches for you. There are two ways to access your matches:
When viewing your matches you will see a percentage score given to each match. We know it’s a bit technical giving scores to users, but remember this is the score that represents the likelihood of a strong match between you and the other user(s) and not a reflection on any user’s personhood.
Note: If the number of suggested matches you receive is very low, or zero, why not take a look at our ‘Match Advice’ section, where you can learn how to improve your match outcomes.
The Match Results Grid
The match results will display six matches per page. At the bottom of the page you will see the total number of matches for you at that moment and an option to progress to the next page of matches, should you have more than six matches at that time.
You can filter your match results by:
These filters are available at the top of each match result page.
Note: An online user may have gone offline after your results have been generated. In this case, filtering for ‘online users’ can generate some unusual results.
If, after filtering, you wish to see all matches again, simply select the first option in each filter:
If you wish to see what you’re missing from your matches, you may search for other users by criteria that you control. This comes in the form of basic and advanced search. Both of these options can be found under the My Matches menu item on the main menu.
Note: Only Subscribed users can access the Advanced Search feature
Searching is as easy as selecting the criteria you wish to search by and clicking ‘search’. You may also:
Maybe you just don’t trust yourself with your selections, or maybe you want to put your prospects of love in the lap of the Gods? Well then you can let the system randomly suggest another user’s profile for you. To do this go to:
Sometimes random chance might produce your next date!
Saw another user you like? Maybe you want to let them know, or maybe you want to ruminate on it for a little longer. No problem! You can do ether / both from the My Interactions menu item. You can also review messages from other users, or reply to messages from other users from the My Interactions menu. We’ll come to messages shortly, for now let’s look at Winks and Favourites
Winks & Favourites
A wink is just a gentle, polite, little gesture to another user that you like their profile and maybe you’d like to chat sometime.
Okay, so a wink in the real world can carry all sorts of different connotations, but in arealkeeper.ie, we’re definitely stressing the ‘polite indication of interest’ meaning of a wink. Hey, this isn’t a building site!
To wink at a user:
To favourite a user:
A ‘favourite’, is just a handy way to group users that you like enough to maybe explore things further with in future visits to arelakeeper.ie.
To review all of your winks , simply to go:
Then choose whether you wish to see all the users you have winked at, or perhaps more interestingly, all of the users who have winked at you by choosing either outgoing winks or incoming winks , respectively. To review all of your winks, simply to go:
To review all of your favourites , simply go to:
Then choose whether you wish to see all the users you have favourited, or all of the users who have favourited you by choosing either outgoing favourites or incoming favourites , respectively.
One of the most exciting features on arealkeeper.ie is Instant Messaging. With Instant Messaging you can have a real-time conversation with other users (simultaneously), reply to messages that other users may have left you while you were offline, or send a message to another offline user.
See Permissions List for which features apply to your subscription type
To begin messaging another user simply click on the speech bubbles icon under their profile picture and a min chat box will open. You simply type your message press send. Easy!
If the user you gave just messaged is online and is capable of replying, your greeting may become a conversation. If they are currently offline, they will see that they have an unread message in their notification bar the next time they login, at which time they can reply, whether you are online or not.
If you are online and another user messages you, your notification bar will add a badge indicating that you an unread message. The badge will contain a number denoting the amount of unread messages you have.
You can read the message by clicking the speech bubbles icon in your notification bar or by going to.
Similarly, if you are offline when other users message you, you will see the number of unread messages you have indicated in your notification bar.
You can continue a live chat in the mini chat box. If you prefer, you can manage your messages with both online and offline users via:
Here you can sort messages by date received. You can also sort messages by volume, where volume indicates the number of exchanged messages between you and another user. So, someone you have chatted to quite a bit will be very easy to find via your My Messages page.
You can have fun on a realkeeper.ie without being verified, but it does sure help other users to know that behind that funny (and perfectly respectable) username, there is a real user. Verification is a signal to other users that you are real and that you are here for other real users.
Verification: An Explanation
Before outlining how you can go about being verified on arealkeeper.ie, let us explain more about it by using the Frequently Asked Questions of other users:
Q. Can other Users see the information that I entered when verifying myself?
R. Absolutely Not! In fact we can’t see this information either. It’s all encrypted and processed by very clever third-party algorithms and only your result (verified / not verified) is stored on arelakeeper.ie servers.
Q. How do I know if another user is Verified?
R. Under each user’s profile picture, there is a ‘shield’ icon. This icon is grey for unverified users and blue for verified users. If an icon is grey it simply means that the user is not yet verified and does not necessarily mean that they have attempted to be verified but have failed.
Q. What are the benefits to being verified?
R. The main benefit to being verified is that other users will know that your arealkeeper.ie user has a real person behind it. Unfortunately, many online dating sites use spurious users to bulk up their numbers and generate interest from ‘real’ users. This is very much against the ethos of arealkeeper.ie.
Don’t be surprised if you find yourself getting a lot more interest after your account has been verified. This is to be expected and increases your chances of finding real matches. There other benefits to being verified, such as having more control of your saved searches and the ability to add up to ten profile pictures, but we see verification as a signal to others that you are real and are genuine.
Once verified you’ll also find it easier to progress your interactions with other verified arealkeeper.ie users, increasing your chances of finding a real match!
Q. I failed Verification. Why?
R. Failing verification doesn’t mean you did anything wrong. It can simply be that the system can’t generate a successful result from the information you gave it, at that time. You can attempt verification again at a later time if your result was not successful.
You can attempt verification again at a later time if your result was successful.

We want users to enjoy arealkeeper.ie and have success finding real and meaningful matches. However, we don’t want anyone to compromise on safety. As such we recommend two things:

The Register a Date feature is a simple tool for recording any dates you plan on having with other users you have met in the arealkeeper.ie environment. This information is private to you. Registering a date is simple. To do so follow the steps below:
What Happens Next?
The other user will now receive a notification, telling them that you wish to register a date with them. They can either accept this date, or reject it. If they accept it, then the date is registered. You can see all your registered dates by going to:
Remember, registering a date is something we very much encourage, but it is not enough on its own to help you be safe. While the whole emphasis of arealkeeper.ie is for you to meet real prospects in the ‘real’ world, we just ask users to be sensibly cautious. Your safety is paramount!
